Boycott Andy Martin!

I know a lot of you are saying "Who is Andy Martin?' Good! Mr. Martin is a "birther"- one of those people who questions where Barack Obama was born. I have no problem with anyone questioning where our President was born if they have any doubts. What I am criticizing is Mr. Martin's request for a boycott of the State of Hawaii. On his website, which I will not do him the favor of posting a link to, he says "Please join us in boycotting Hawai’i tourism, Hawai’i products and Hawai’ian businesses until Obama’s historical records and files are made available." He goes on to say "Economic pressure may alert Hawai’ians to the historic injustice that they are inflicting on the nation of which they are a part." "We are sending the People of Hawai’i a message: as long as Hawai’i officials produce no documents there will be no Hawai’i tourism, no purchases of Hawai’i products and no patronage of Hawai’i businesses by the American people. In addition, we are asking everyone, everywhere to make this an international boycott and quarantine of the Hawai’i economy. "

As a resident of Hawaii, I find his words and intended actions repugnant and shameful. His attempts to harm the citizens of Hawaii through his twisted perception of economic blackmail is beyond the pale. If he has a beef with the State of Hawaii, let him pursue his complaint through the normal, legitimate channels, such as our Governor Lingle and other relevant state officials. Hawaii is sharing the bleak economic times with the rest of the country and his attempts at hurting working individuals are despicable. He is suggesting causing economic damage to every resident of the Hawaiian Islands who are trying to make an honest living and feed their families. I honestly don't see his anti-Hawaii campaign as substantially meaningful or effective. While I doubt many people will cancel their vacation plans or purchases of Hawaiis goods over the birther issue, I find his attempt to damage the economy of the state beyond mean-spirited. The entire basis of his boycott doesn't make sense- if he doesn't think Obama was born in Hawaii, why seek to harm its residents?

His website also says he has political aspirations to be Illinois' candidate (R) for U. S. Senator in 2010. I have faith that the people of Illinois, once they see what he is trying to do to the State of Hawaii, will toss him into the rubbish bin of also-rans in 2010. Mr. Martin occasionally appears on MSM news shows. If you ever see him on a show or hear him on the radio, I urge you to call or drop that station an email expressing your distate for this person and his vile actions. Or, drop him an email and let him know what your feelings are.
